We want to make it clear that we are a great church for young families, and that we are taking steps to make our church as welcoming as possible to young families. In fact, my wife, Whitney, and I are a growing young family and are thrilled to raise our daughter at FBC! Let me introduce you to just a few of the perks of getting involved with us here at First Baptist.

As you probably know, we have a significant population of senior adults here at First Baptist. This group is excited about reaching out to and discipling young families. Many would see the fact that we have a high median age in our church as a roadblock to reaching out to young families. I see it as just the opposite. Why? Because this church is a treasure trove of godly wisdom. Many of our members have been here since they were our age. Many of them even have grandchildren who are now a part of young families. In a time when many are flocking to the newest and flashiest things, I am confident that young families need the grounding and wisdom that discipleship from older saints can provide.

Furthermore, we are living in a time where many feel like the truth of the Bible needs to be watered down or simply ignored. We are doing the opposite here at First Baptist. I want to make clear to our young families that when you choose to follow Jesus, you have been called into the most important thing in the universe. We are not watering the truth down here. We are unleashing the truth of God’s word in all of its fullness and power to transform lives. If you are looking for a place that is raising the bar and challenging everyone who claims to be a Christian to live a life of discipleship, then First Baptist is the place for you.

FBC is also passionate about training children and youth to know and love Jesus Christ. We want children and students to learn the Gospel from their Bibles while they are at church even as we equip fathers and mothers to lead their children spiritually. We are not the primary means by which your children are nourished spiritually–you are! We recognize that and our practice will continue to reflect God’s design by equipping parents.

We want to put our money where our mouth is, so to speak. Here are a few of the things we are doing to make sure families feel welcome at FBC:

Young Families Sunday School Class – Every sunday at 9:15 we have a Sunday school class designed specifically for young couples, young families, and single parents.

Playground Renovation – Click here to learn more about our recent playground renovation.

Church Staff – Click here to learn more about our student associate Jarred Boyd, who is passionate about reaching and discipling students.

Graded Choirs – We have a choir for children and a choir for students that practice on Wednesday nights and often get the opportunity to help lead our congregation in worship.

Annual Events – In addition to VBS, Fall Festival, and youth activities, we are constantly looking for ways to add engaging events to our church calendar.

Discipleship Opportunities – Every Wednesday and Sunday, we have opportunities for every age group to grow in their knowledge of the Bible and relationship with Christ. From Sunday school, to RAs, GAs, and Student Worship, we are engaging every age group with the Gospel.

Meals for New Parents – When families in our church have a new addition to the family, our church steps up and provides them with meals following the birth to help ease their transition into parenthood.

If there is some way we can serve you and your family, please do not hesitate to let me know. I have high anticipation for the work that God is doing here at First Baptist. We are praying that God will bring people here to be a part of the future of this great church. Would you consider coming and being our guest at FBC? I am praying we will see you soon!

In Christ,

Mat Alexander
